Section 6 of the TransAmerica Trail follows I-80 for 15 miles between Sinclair and Walcott, then turns south. Traffic on the interstate is heavy, but cyclists can use the wide shoulder.

The rolling basin known as North Park contains the headwaters of the North Platte River. From here south to Canon City, riders cross high-altitude country. The elevation may cause headaches, sleeplessness or shortness of breath, although most cyclists have approached gradually from lower elevations, allowing their bodies to acclimatise.

Traffic increases as the route approaches Summit County. Recreational facilities attract many weekend visitors and holidaymakers from the more densely populated eastern slopes of the Rockies.

Around Frisco and Breckenridge, the route intersects the Great Parks South Bicycle Route and the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route. After Breckenridge, the South Park section begins with a moderately difficult climb on Hoosier P.
