The South Platte River (Middle Fork): Alma to Elevenmile Canyon Reservoir Fishing & River Map Guide is designed for recreation on the upper Middle Fork of the South Platte.
In the upper South Platte basin, the Middle Fork and South Fork above Antero are classic freestone streams with beaver ponds. Flow, water temperature, clarity, hatches and other conditions vary considerably, including freezing in winter. By contrast, the tailwaters below Antero and Spinney Mountain Reservoir are more predictable, offering consistent year-round angling.
The guide includes the stretch between Spinney Mountain and Elevenmile Reservoirs known as the "Dream Stream", renowned for producing some of the country's largest trout.
Detailed river maps at 1 inch = 1/2 mile clearly show and label every bend and rapid. River-centred pages overlap adjacent pages. Maps include river distances, access points, private and public land, gauging stations, recreation sites and more.
Pat Dorsey, one of Colorado's best-known fly-fishing guides and authors, wrote the introduction, specific fly-fishing strategies and descriptions of seasonal river changes. Streamflow charts, hatch charts and a river access table are included.
As compact and lightweight as folded maps but easier to use, National Geographic's Fishing & River Map Guide booklets are printed on waterproof, tear-resistant "Backcountry Tough" paper, with stainless-steel staples. A full UTM grid assists GPS navigation.
