This section follows paved state trails and two-lane roads with shoulders of varying widths. The countryside is open, with rolling wetlands and dense trees and shrubs along the lakeshores.

At Dalbo, the route turns east through gently rolling farmland to Osceola, Wisconsin. A steep climb leads into Osceola from the St Croix River Valley.

In Wisconsin, riding near the river means hillier terrain along the bluffs. There is a steep descent to the St Croix River, followed by a steep climb after the bridge towards Stillwater, Minnesota.
