Gravel and bikepacking: a two-in-one introduction without the need to take things to extremes.
For cyclists new to gravel riding, this book provides practical information for trying a new adventure. Cycling has grown since the health crisis and its forms have diversified: between competition and cycle touring, gravel and bikepacking offer freer approaches that are different but complementary.
Richly illustrated, the guide combines technical advice, stories and accounts from riders, expert tips and about 10 accessible trip ideas in France and neighbouring countries.
Technical guidance
Video tutorials accessed through QR codes complement the explanations. The guide sets out how gravel bikes differ from road, mountain and hybrid bikes, covering geometry, materials such as aluminium, steel, carbon and titanium, and different drivetrains.
It also covers clothing, accessories, bags, bivouacking, navigation and planning to help riders equip themselves and travel well.
Travel and inspiration
About 10 routes in France and nearby Europe invite exploration. Introductory rides include La Vélidéale from Creuse to the Atlantic. Others are more demanding but remain achievable at a touring pace, such as Montañas Vacías, a 700 km route through Spanish Lapland.
Each itinerary has a technical fact sheet with essential information and advice on equipment, preparation, accommodation and bivouac options.
