Hossa, described as Finland's newest national park, brings echoes of thousands of years ago: the oldest settlements date back 10,000 years, and the Värikallio rock paintings were created 4,000 years ago.

Waters from three directions meet at Hossa and continue towards Oulujoki and Pohjanlahti. There are 90 kilometres of waymarked trails for hikers, which can be followed on foot, on skis or by bicycle.

The route following Somerjärvi links Hossa to the Kylmäuloma camping area, where routes pass through ridge-top pines and aspens.
