In July 2018, more than a decade after the application was submitted, UNESCO added the Chaîne des Puys-Limagne Fault to the World Heritage List. This tectonic landscape tells a geological story spanning 35 million years.

The remarkable site, which continues to surprise even local residents, has three main elements:

The 32-kilometre Limagne Fault, separating the subsided plain from the Plateau des Dômes.
The inverted relief of Montagne de la Serre, a volcanic flow left standing higher as the surrounding land eroded.
The alignment of 80 volcanoes of the Chaîne des Puys, described as formed in a single eruption.

Its wild, intriguing and spectacular beauty is celebrated in Vivien Therme's photographs and Joseph Vebret's words. Both grew up in the shadow of these still, protective giants.
