East of Sandpoint, SR 200 carries recreational and commercial traffic, so ride carefully. In Montana, the route follows state or US highways to Eureka. Logging is widespread in this part of the state; the scenery is beautiful, but expect logging trucks.

Traffic beside Lake Koocanusca is light. On US 93 between Eureka and Whitefish, it can be moderate to heavy, as this is a main route into Canada.

Northeast of Columbia Falls, the route includes a few kilometres of gravel but avoids some of the heavy tourist traffic on US 2 near Glacier National Park.

Traffic in the park is heavy in summer. Going-to-the-Sun Road, between West Glacier and St Mary, is closed to all traffic from approximately 30 September to 15 June.

East of the Continental Divide, the route enters Canada, with a spur to Waterton Lakes National Park. Once on the plains, it returns to the United States and ends in Cut Bank.
