Papeete, the Tomb of King Pōmare, the lagoons and reefs of Mo'orea: this reference map of Tahiti and Mo'orea grew out of Tom Patterson's visit in 2019. It was made possible by new 20-metre elevation data and 100-metre bathymetry released by Shom, the French hydrographic service. It highlights three zones: the ocean floor from which the volcanoes rose, the narrow coastal strip of coral reefs and settlements, and the cloud-capped mountain spires.
Place names are in French and Tahitian, from 1:50,000 French topographic maps and OpenStreetMap; the title and legend are in English. This map was created by Tom Patterson, a retired US National Park Service cartographer and co-creator of the Equal Earth projection, and we print it to order in our Premium Edition collection, close to you: in Germany for Europe, in Canada for North America.
