Ridges, trenches, seamounts and abyssal plains: this wall map reveals the hidden relief of the oceans, rendered in three dimensions with cast shadows, as if the seas had been drained. It is a modern interpretation of the famous 1977 Heezen, Tharp and Berann ocean floor map, which helped win acceptance for the theory of plate tectonics. It is based on the latest bathymetric data: GEBCO merged with BathDNN25, a deep-learning model derived from the SWOT satellite.
It was created by Tom Patterson, a retired US National Park Service cartographer and co-creator of the Equal Earth projection, and we print it to order in our Premium Edition collection, close to you: in Germany for Europe, in Canada for North America.
