Created with local and national land management agencies and conservation organisations, National Geographic's Trails Illustrated map of the Shawangunk Mountains is a comprehensive guide to the region's recreation opportunities.
It includes background on public lands, detailed trail mapping, a Shawangunk Ridge Trail profile, a guide to major points of interest, a complete road network, scenic byways and hundreds of recreation features. Contours, elevations, labelled peaks and summits and selected waypoints assist navigation.
Trail guides list distances and designated uses for hiking, horse riding, cycling and cross-country skiing. Mapped routes show distances between junctions, with the Long Path and Shawangunk Ridge Trail highlighted. The Shawangunk Ridge Trail profile gives elevations, distances and major points of interest.
Recreation features include trailheads, interpretive trails, boat ramps, campsites, primitive campsites, and areas for fishing, swimming, scuba diving, climbing, picnicking and wildlife watching.
Coverage includes Minnewaska State Park and Sam's Point preserves, the Neversink River and Upper Delaware, High Point State Park, Shawangunk Mountain Scenic Byway and Bashakill Wildlife Management Area. An inset details Mohonk Preserve and Mohonk Mountain House.
Printed on waterproof, tear-resistant "Backcountry Tough" paper, the map has a full UTM grid for GPS navigation.
Other mapped features include High Point, Kittatinny Mountain, Middletown, Neversink River, Plattekill, the Shawangunk Mountains, Upper Delaware and Wawarsing.
