The Colorado Trail South Topographic Map Guide is designed for navigating the southern section of the Colorado Trail.

Conceived in 1973 and completed in 1987, Colorado's premier long-distance trail runs for 486 miles between Denver and Durango through some of the state's most dramatic scenery.

From its southern terminus outside Durango, it climbs steeply into the San Juan Mountains, remaining above 3,000 metres for nearly 150 miles apart from one steep descent to the Animas River near Silverton. The trail reaches its highest point in the San Juan Mountains at 13,271 feet.

After leaving the San Juans, it briefly descends below 3,000 metres before climbing into the Sawatch Range and joining Colorado Trail North and the Collegiate Loop.

Each page is centred on the trail, with overlapping coverage.
