Because heavy traffic tends to be even heavier in the summer, we recommend driving this vehicle in the spring or fall.

In Santa Barbara and surrounding cities, be prepared for urban driving conditions

US 101 between Santa Barbara and Ventura is closed to cyclists, so you'll be riding on city streets and county roads

The route here remains close to sea level

Traffic levels increase near Ventura and Oxnard, then decrease to Los Angeles County

You'll take a bike path through Emma Wood State Beach north of Ventura and join SR 1 southeast of Port Hueneme.

South of the Ventura-Los Angeles County border, you'll travel through Malibu on a four- and six-lane freeway with wide shoulders.

Traffic is heavier on weekends and in summer

Throughout Los Angeles, you will take the bike and pedestrian paths along the seaside
