Section 1 of the Washington Parks Bicycle Route begins by heading west from Sedro-Woolley to Anacortes, with ferry options for visiting several San Juan Islands.

The route follows the Olympic Discovery Trail from Sequim to Port Angeles, passing the entrance to Olympic National Park. It then continues west to Forks on the peninsula.

South of Forks, the views are spectacular, and beach car parks offer many opportunities to explore the shore.

At Elma, choose between continuing on the main route and taking the 111-mile Sound Alternate. This mainly rural link leads to Port Townsend and includes a spur to the Bremerton ferry, with an option to travel to Seattle.

Washington Parks map 2 shows how to continue east from Elma into central Washington, then loop north and west to Sedro-Woolley.
