National Geographic's Buffalo Creek Mountain Bike trail map covers a Colorado area transformed after a wildfire in spring 1996. Soon afterwards, dedicated mountain bikers and the U.S. Forest Service began developing a network now spanning nearly 100 miles of varied terrain, from densely wooded hills to open plains dotted with the matchstick-like trunks left by the fires.

The map is a detailed resource for mountain bikers, with ratings and clearly marked single-track and double-track routes. The reverse suggests loops and trails for every ability, from beginner to expert. Each ride has a profile showing climbs, descents, trail junctions and other waypoints, plus detailed directions and notes on interesting landmarks.
