Brittany is a land of hiking. Its paths, whether coastal or inland, offer a wide variety of landscapes, a rich and varied history, an authentic heritage, and an inimitable charm. This first volume offers 32 day itineraries in Finistère and Morbihan, as well as several multi-day hikes.
Their names are an invitation to travel: Finistère "end of the land" and Morbihan "small sea." These two departments carry a powerful imagery of storms and sea spray, tall lighthouses, and bold islands. They are also synonymous with beaches and swimming, and gastronomy with a taste of iodine and salted butter. These two territories conceal mysterious forests and a moorland populated by korrigans and dotted with standing stones.
The 32 chosen itineraries (with variations and suggestions for multi-day tours or loops) take you on a journey to discover the must-see tourist attractions – the Pointe du Raz, the Caps de Crozon, the Gulf of Morbihan, the Brocéliande Forest – as well as lesser-known places, undoubtedly better preserved and all the more authentic – the loops of the Nantes-Brest Canal, the Huelgoat Forest, the Scorff Valley, the golden beaches of Pénestin, the rocky chaos of the Côte des Légendes, the small sea of Gâvres, Lake Guerlédan, which looks like a Norwegian fjord… Some of these trails often follow sections of the GR® 34, a famous long-distance hiking trail that connects the Mont-Saint-Michel to Saint-Nazaire and follows the historic customs path. The interior of the country, the Kreiz Breiz, is crisscrossed by the GR 37 and GR 38 hiking trails.
Volume 2 will be devoted to the other two departments of Brittany: Côtes-d’Armor and Ille-et-Vilaine.
