Straddling the Argentina–Chile border along the spine of the Andes, the lake district of northern Patagonia is a land of snow-capped volcanoes, sparkling lakes and primeval forests, watered by Pacific moisture, which abruptly gives way to wind-swept desert east of the mountains. This 3D perspective view centres on Bariloche and Lake Nahuel Huapi, whose branching arms guide the eye to other destinations in the region.
An Easter egg from the author: the scene hides two boats and an aeroplane. This view was created by Tom Patterson, a retired US National Park Service cartographer and co-creator of the Equal Earth projection, and we print it to order in our Premium Edition collection, close to you: in Germany for Europe, in Canada for North America.
