Mayotte is an archipelago in the Indian Ocean located between Madagascar and the coast of Mozambique. It is a French department and region, although Mayotte's traditional culture is closer to that of the neighboring Comoros Islands. The Mayotte archipelago is surrounded by a coral reef that shelters a lagoon and a marine reserve.
