The Arles Way, or Via Tolosana, is the southernmost and sunniest of the four historic French routes to Santiago de Compostela. This route was traveled in both directions: by pilgrims heading to Rome from the Iberian Peninsula and what is now southwest France; in the other direction, by pilgrims from Germany, Italy, and Provence on their way to Santiago de Compostela. From Arles, this guide will take you through the Camargue, the scrubland of Bas-Languedoc and the city of Montpellier, the hills of Lauragais, Toulouse and Gascony before crossing the Pyrenees at the Somport Pass to join the Camino Francés at Puente la Reina.
