From Orchard Park north towards Buffalo, you encounter urban riding conditions, so ride defensively. A well-paved but poorly signed cycle path runs from Buffalo Naval Park to the Peace Bridge, which takes you into Canada.

The Peace Bridge provides an easy crossing, and the route continues on a cycle path along the Niagara River. You pass Niagara Falls before returning to the United States.

At Lockport, the route follows 90 miles of the Erie Canalway Trail before heading towards Lake Ontario. It then turns east into the Adirondack Mountains, over rolling terrain past numerous lakes and attractions.

The section ends at Ticonderoga, described as being beside the Hudson River.
