The discovery of the tomb of the apostle Saint James in Compostela, at the beginning of the 9th century, marked the beginning of pilgrimages to Compostela. Since then, pilgrims have never deserted this route, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO; in 2010, there were 300,000 walking to Santiago. After two editions devoted to the two main French routes, the Puy-en-Velay Way and the Vézelay Way, the Petit Futé takes the pilgrim to Spain with this first edition on the original route, the Camino Francès.
