Exploring a region by bike is an environmentally responsible way to travel. Electric assistance makes cycle touring accessible to more people, whatever the terrain. You do not need to be a highly trained, experienced cyclist to enjoy the places along the way at a leisurely pace, close to nature.
The authors explore a large and varied region with exceptional scenery, from the Lyonnais Hills to Upper Bugey, via Bresse, the Dombes and Lake Paladru, as well as the Via Fluvia and ViaRhôna.
They have devised eight mostly circular itineraries of two to six days, with numerous alternatives. Together these cover at least 1,500 km, with individual trips ranging from about 100 km over a weekend to a little over 250 km over most of a week.
Routes follow greenways and original itineraries on small roads with as little traffic as possible. Some sections use compacted surfaces or dirt tracks suitable for hybrid bikes and e-bikes. Short stages of about 40 to 50 km, or three to four hours of leisurely cycling, leave time for visits and activities along the way or at each stop.
