Despite the unfair discredit suffered by this region, Hainaut can be proud of the sites and landscapes it offers its visitors. It is not without reason that this land is home to such a large number of castles, which stretch from Belœil to Chimay, from Attre to Seneffe. It is also no coincidence that the champion of nature, Émile Verhaeren, regularly stayed in a discreet corner of Honnelles.
Are there many hikers who have crisscrossed the trails of this Haut-Pays when daffodils carpet the wooded banks of the Grande and Petite Honnelle? It is one of the thousand charming places where the authors of this guide dream of taking you. But there is also this astonishing Pays des Collines, the hanging gardens of Thuin and the undergrowth flowered with hyacinths which border the Biesmelle, the nurseries which colonize the plains of the Escaut to the south of Tournai… There is still… But the list would be a tedious litany.
And then, it is with the feet and the eyes that we discover the truth of a corner of the earth, that we taste its attractions and its flavors.
So let’s forget about the prejudices that restrict our universe!
