The first inhabitants of Hossa arrived, attracted by the game, fish, and good waterways. Today's hikers seek the peace and experiences of the old-growth taiga forests, clear waters, and magnificent ridges. There are 150 kilometers of marked trails in Hossa and over 90 kilometers in Kylmlauoma. Along them are deserted huts, houses, sheds, cooking shelters, and dozens of campfire sites.
Camping facilities also extend beyond the national park and the camping area. The Itäraja hiking trail runs from the Kainuu Kairoka villages in Viana Karelia to the rock paintings of Värikallio.
