We invite you to walk in the writer's footsteps, from Velay to the Cévennes, via the harsh Gévaudan and Mont Lozère.
The result of meticulous work, this guide presents step by step this itinerary that connects Velay, a land of springs and deep valleys, to the Cévennes, home of the Camisard rebels.
In 1878, Robert Louis Stevenson was 28 years old and reached a turning point in his life: he was assailed by doubts about his vocation as a writer; Fanny Osbourne, the love of his life, has just left him and embarked for the United States... To take a step back, he retires to Monastier-sur-Gazeille, in Velay, before setting off on foot with only a donkey named Modestine as his companion. This journey will give rise to the famous story entitled Travels with a Donkey in the Cévennes.
