The new GR 121 is the merger of the old GR 579 (Brussels – Wavre – Liège) and GR 121 (Wavre - Nivelles – Bon-Secours). A main route of 300 km, passing through Brussels. A route reduced to 265 km if the Nivelles variant is taken.
The GR 121 crosses the vast expanses of Hesbaye, Brabant, and Hainaut. Amidst the vast fields and meadows, the landscapes are open, and you can see far. The skies are often magnificent. The farms are imposing.
From time to time, a town, a castle, a wooded section, a river or a canal provide other sensations to the hiker before the latter once again rediscovers the almost meditative side of the great outdoors.
