Frequently asked questions

Which map projection should I choose for a world map?
World maps use different projections depending on the publisher. The Mercator projection is one of the best known, but many models in our catalogue, particularly those published by Maps International, use the Van der Grinten projection. We also offer world maps using the Gall–Peters projection, which preserves the relative areas of countries and continents, although their shapes may appear more elongated. When this information is provided by the publisher, the projection is specified on the product page.
What is the difference between a political world map and a physical world map?
A political world map highlights countries, international borders, capital cities and major towns. It is the ideal choice for planning a trip, teaching geography or following international news. A physical world map focuses on the Earth's natural features, including mountains, deserts, oceans, seas and major rivers. It is perfect for understanding the planet's physical geography. We offer both types of world maps to suit different needs. If you want to easily identify countries and capitals, choose a political world map. If you prefer to showcase the world's landscapes and relief, a physical world map will be the better choice.
What size world map should I choose?
The best size depends mainly on where you plan to display it. World maps under one metre wide are ideal for an office, bedroom or smaller room. Models between one and one-and-a-half metres wide are perfect for a living room or workspace. If you want to cover a large wall in a meeting room, classroom or open space, we also offer giant world maps measuring several metres across. Before ordering, we recommend measuring the available wall space to ensure you choose the most suitable size.
Can I glue my world map directly onto a wall or a wooden panel?
In most cases, no. Standard paper world maps are not designed to be glued onto a surface. Applying adhesive often causes wrinkles, bubbles and permanent distortion. Only world maps specifically designed as wallpaper should be glued. These models are supplied in several panels and are installed using wallpaper paste, just like traditional wallpaper. Whenever this is the case, it is clearly stated in the product description.
How is a world map shipped?
The vast majority of our world maps are shipped rolled in a sturdy cardboard tube to prevent creases during transport. When you receive your map, we recommend gently sliding it out of the tube rather than pulling it, to avoid damaging the edges.
How can I hang a world map?
Most of our world maps are supplied without a hanging system. You can mount them using reusable adhesive putty (such as Patafix®), double-sided adhesive tape, push pins, a frame or wooden hanging rails. For large-format or laminated maps, double-sided tape or a hanging system is generally the better option. We also offer a range of world maps already fitted with wooden hanging rails or aluminium rails, ready to hang.
Are hanging systems included with the world map?
Most of our world maps are supplied rolled without a hanging system. You can then choose the mounting method that best suits your home or office: adhesive putty, double-sided tape, push pins, wooden hanging rails or framing. We also offer a selection of world maps already fitted with wooden hanging rails or aluminium rails. These premium models provide a ready-to-hang solution and are very easy to install as soon as you receive them. Whenever a hanging system is included, this is clearly stated in the product description.
Are the borders and country names up to date?
Our world maps are published by specialist map publishers who regularly update their cartography. However, international borders, country names and the status of certain territories may change over time. The information shown on each map reflects the state of geographical knowledge at the time it was printed. To help you choose the most recent edition, the publication date is listed on every product page, allowing you to check the edition before purchasing.
